Anma & Ampuku with Yaniv Sharon
The Experience
Anma developed in china 5000 years ago and gave rise to all other massage methods like Shiatsu and Thai massage. Today it is known as Japanese meridian treatment. Anma is based on the Tao and defends the principles of the TCM, such as the observation of Nature, the five elements and balance between Yin and Yang, etc.
The Word Anma has two meanings
The literal: AN = pressure, Ma = massage / rub
The picturesque: movement of a relaxed hand
Anma is a dynamic massage therapy that uses a variety of techniques to achieve its end including, among others, kneading, rubbing, pressing, tapping, and stretching. The idea of this healing art is to stimulate the body's natural self-healing capacity in order to enhance the sensation of harmony and vitality while helping strengthen health and balance both physical – energetical and emotional aspects of our lives.
The vast variety of built-in techniques makes Anma a very progressive and efficient manual therapy method that can be adapted to the client’s capacity, needs, and state of health to ensure the right level of pressure and treatment mode during a massage session. The treatment is indicated for people of all ages, ranging from children to the elderly, and is very beneficial for pregnant women.
Anma acts on the body on three levels
Physical
Structure and muscles, the body´s systems (digestive, endocrine, circulation, respiratory and nervous system), using manual techniques to relax and restore the movement and flexibility of muscles and joints.
Level of vital energy (Qi)
Meridians and Tsubo. These are energy channels that extend throughout the entire body. The stimulation of these points significantly improves the flow of Qi (vital life energy) thereby helping the body to restore energetic balance and harmony while improving the physical symptoms the client is experiencing.
Emotional level
The source of stagnation and illness. Using manual techniques the therapist helps in addressing the emotional layer, enhancing the connection of the client with the source of his ailments.
What is Ampuku?
The word Ampuku means "the pulse of the Hara" or "calming the Abdomen" and is a body treatment that focuses on the Hara (the body´s energy center), which according to Eastern medicine is located in the belly. Ampuku originates from Anma and was separated from it about 400 years ago when Master Shiansi Ota gave it a separate definition. This definition contributed to and influenced the development of current Ampuku methods and some therapies that we know today.
“…If we practice on the patient the Ampuku, their basic Ki will flow better and it will open stagnations. Harmony between the vital organs will increase, blood circulation will be smoother, joints become more flexible, muscles will get softer, skin becomes suppler, appetite improves, excrement and urine will go out smoothly and regularly, the strength of the memory and general vitality is increased…”
~Master Ota
How it works?
The treatment is based on an initial diagnosis that examines the general condition of the client and evaluates the cause of their ailments.
The therapist evaluates the manifestation of symptoms in the different conditions of the Hara such as:
• The pulse of the Hara
• Hara tension
• Condition of the internal organs
Through manual methods and verbal work, the therapist acts to restore the body’s physiological and energetic balance.
Ampuku has two main methodologies
· Physiological Ampuku, which focuses on treating pathologies of the body,
· Emotional Ampuku, which focuses on the roots of these pathologies, manifested in the body by energy blockages and emotional difficulties.
Traditional Ampuku focuses on the abdominal region and parallel area of the back to favor a balance of basic Qi energy in the Hara (the body´s energetic center) and improve the harmony and function of internal organs.
The emotional methodology considers a person´s behavioral patterns and emotional stagnation as the root of disease. By releasing blockages, one can begin a process of self-knowledge in order to change behavioral patterns related to the ailment.
