Anger has a function and an overlooked wisdom within it.
It can tell us when a boundary has been crossed, when something matters, when we need to protect ourselves, speak, move or say no. Yet many of us learned our relationship with anger by witnessing it expressed through aggression, harm or loss of control. Others learned to suppress it altogether.
Wisdom of Anger is an experiential somatic workshop for building a different relationship with this emotion.
Led and guided throughout by Imad Naassi, the practice explores anger as an emotion connected to dignity, protection and the capacity to take up appropriate space in our lives.
Rather than intellectualizing anger or encouraging uncontrolled expression, we work with the body to recognize it, experience it consciously, give it a contained form of expression, and integrate what emerges.
For some, anger may sit close to grief. For others, it may reveal words that were never spoken, a boundary that was never established, or an experience that has remained unresolved. There is no prescribed emotional outcome. The work begins with what is present.
WHAT TO EXPECT
ARRIVE & GROUND
We begin by settling into the space and establishing enough grounding and orientation to enter the practice with awareness.
UNDERSTAND ANGER
Imad introduces the function of anger and explores how our early experiences can shape whether we fear it, suppress it, collapse around it, or express it in ways that do not serve us.
RECOGNISE WHAT IS HELD
We bring attention to the body’s relationship with anger and how unexpressed emotion may influence the way we respond, communicate, establish boundaries and relate to others.
ACTIVATE & WITNESS
Through guided breath, movement, facial expression and physical gestures, participants begin to approach the felt experience of anger. Imad guides the process step by step, allowing you to witness the emotion rather than simply react from it.
EXPRESS & RELEASE
The practice develops into more active somatic work, including contained pillow work. You may be invited to connect with situations, relationships or experiences where anger was present but could not be fully acknowledged or expressed. Different emotions may emerge alongside it, including grief and vulnerability.
INTEGRATE
The active work gives way to the floor. Lying down, the body is given time to settle, process and integrate the experience before we close together.
Participants in previous editions of this work have described feeling more able to establish boundaries without collapsing, experiencing greater ease around unresolved relationships, and recognizing how much anger they had been carrying without consciously knowing it.
The purpose is not to become more angry.
It is to become more capable of meeting anger without fearing it, suppressing it or being governed by it, and to hear what it may have been trying to protect all along.
Ground. Feel. Express. Integrate.
