Yoga

Are you new to Yoga, or will you like to discover more?

You're not quite sure what to bring, what to expect from our classes, etc. - we're here to support you.

Kindly see below for some commonly asked questions and answers.

If you need immediate assistance, please don't hesitate to give us a call!

  • Yoga is an ancient practice that may have originated in India. It involves movement, meditation, and breathing techniques to promote mental and physical well-being. There are several types of yoga and many disciplines within the practice.

  • At SEVA Experience, the Yoga classes we offer can transform not only your body, but your mind and your lifestyle as well.

Whilst increasing strength, flexibility, and mental acuity, as well as a focus on deep conscious breathing, a regular yoga practice (ideally 3x/week or more) can highly improve your energy levels, your overall health & vitality, reduce body aches and stiffness, and help maintain a balanced metabolism.

Yoga is a journey to a happier, more joyful life!

  • A positive attitude and an open heart is all you need to start! Anyone can start yoga, there are no requirements regarding strength and flexibly, as all exercises can be done in easier variations for beginners —just let the yoga teacher know that you’re new beforehand, and he/she will make sure you receive the necessary guidance.

  • Absolutely!

SEVA Experience is a safe space for everyone to practice in, and we welcome everybody, no matter their level of practice.

It's important to remember that everybody is different and unique, so be kind to yourself.

Don't force anything, and know that it's okay to stay within your limits.

Our international teachers are there to guide you through the sequences and have been practicing for years, so remember not to push your body into poses to be exactly like them.

We understand that new things can be daunting but keep in mind that every yogi was new to the art of Yoga and the SEVA Experience once before too.

  • No. flexibility is a component of Yoga.

However, you do not have to be flexible to practice it.

As you practice the techniques diligently with breath awareness, your flexibility improves.

  • Everyone's schedules and goals are different.

Ideally, As often as you can is ideal since everyday Yoga practice gives the desired results.

To experience Yoga's benefits, we recommend that 2-3 days a week be sufficient. Even a short session of 15 min every day. You will see and feel Yoga's excellent benefits with dedicated practice and commitment.

  • We recommend starting with our Vinyasa or Flow Yoga class if you're new to Yoga.

Connecting movement and breath, this all-level Vinyasa class is for those seeking the traditional foundations of Yoga, with sequences.

It poses to awaken and invigorate every muscle in your body.

After the class, you will feel your body feels stretched, strengthened, and relaxed.

  • We recommend early morning if possible, but we offer classes at any time of the day, to accommodate everyone’s schedule. In the evenings we typically have mindful yoga practices and sound healing meditations to release tension and stress before the night.

  • Currently, at SEVA Experience we offer?

    • Vinyasa Yoga,

...an approach to yoga in which you move from one pose directly into the next.

    • Flow Yoga with Pranayama

...a practice and control of one's life-currents through controlled breathing and meditation.

    • Detox Yoga

...a flow that uses different positions — particularly twists and bends — to stimulate our organs, especially the ones that extract waste from our bodies.

    • Kundalini Yoga

…a type of Yoga that involves chanting, singing, breathing exercises, and repetitive poses.

It is awakening the potential energy present in each of us in a dormant state.

    • Hatha Yoga

...a slow and deliberate practice to move your body into different poses that challenge your strength and flexibility, while at the same time focusing on relaxation and mindfulness.

    • Power Yoga

…a fast-paced cardiovascular workout focused on building strength and flexibility in the body through high-impact yoga postures.

    • Prenatal Yoga

...a multifaceted approach to exercise that encourages stretching, mental centering, and focused breathing.

    • Mindful Yoga

...an excellent mean of acquiring relaxation at the same time as achieving healing from many physical complications.

  • Make sure you are well hydrated before your class, and we recommend drinking plenty of water after the class as well.

Food plays a significant role. Large meals before your Yoga class can rest in your gut, make you feel uncomfortable during the yoga class.

Therefore we recommend avoiding anything more than a light meal or snack in the last 2-3 hours before heading to your class at SEVA. Early morning Kundalini classes are best done on an empty stomach.

  • We kindly ask you take your shoes off downstairs and leave them in the dedicated drawers before going to your class upstairs, leave any bags and belongings in the locker rooms, put your cell phones on airplane mode or silent mode, and absolutely refrain from using them during class. —It would be even better if you can leave your phone with your belongings in the locker room, so that you will not be tempted to check your device, and you won’t be disturbing others with buzzing notifications and the screen lightening up.

  • All Yoga techniques should be practiced with a deep awareness of the breath.

Breathing consciously, is what connects the body & the mind.

So, when you manipulate the body with specific techniques of conscious breathing, it naturally affects mental health.

  • We recommend you consult your GP/ doctor before participating in any physical activity for your safety.

We offer Prenatal Yoga with our certified doula.

Our international Yoga teachers can offer modifications and transitions to ensure your practice is safe for you and your growing bump.

If you have any questions, please call us directly at +971 58 543 5888 or drop by to chat with our teachers about how we can support you.

  • Make sure to tell your teacher before class if you have any injury — this is extremely important and will inform the way the teacher guides you during the class.

Yoga benefits many people with chronic pain by helping the body regain its balance between strength and flexibility, movement and awareness.

  • Not at all. We have taught people as young as 7 and as old as 84. There are many modifications in every yoga class to cater for absolutely everyone.

  • Savasana, in our view, is the most important part of the class. It’s the time when you are able to rest and integrate your hard work and practice into your mind and body. This time is for you, and only you — please embrace it and do not exit the class. Leaving abruptly during this time, unless it is an emergency, disrupts the experience for the rest of your fellow classmates and cuts off an important part of the practice for yourself.

Sound Healing

Where there is vibration, there is sound.

For centuries, various cultures have used sound as a part of religious ceremonies and prayer. And all with one goal - to promote, facilitate, and create healing vibrations, with different musical implements, around the body in a meditative state.

Everything is vibration; even science has proven this fact.

  • A sound healing is an experience in which instruments are played to relax the body, calm the mind, and ignite your inner awareness.

You will be lying down on your back, with your eyes closed, for the experience.

  • Sound healing involves using sound vibrations to relax your mind and body.

  • The benefits of sound therapy include:

    • Lower stress levels

    • Fewer mood swings

    • Lower blood pressure

    • Lower cholesterol

    • Improved sleep

Over the years, sound healing has also been used to treat many conditions, including anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, and dementia.

  • It is not a traditional meditation, as you may think.

Sound Bath experience can be helpful for anyone who wants to access the benefits of meditation or a moment of relaxation.

  • At SEVA Experience, during the sound healing, next to the voice, we are using instruments that make deep, resonating vibrations such as:

    • Crystal bowls

    • Tibetan singing bowls

    • Bells

    • Gongs

  • No, you aren't listening to music in the formal sense.

Though the sounds come from instruments as well as the voice (and your own), they don't incorporate melody, harmony, rhythm, and arrangements like music do.

  • At SEVA Experience our sound bath experiences are always performed at a safe volume.

  • Every session is unique and different.

Typically, a sound bath at SEVA Experience involves lying in a reclining position after taking part in yoga or meditation exercises.

Next, a facilitator trained in sound bath musical techniques will use several instruments to create soothing, overlapping vibrations.

  • Yes, of course.

Lying on the floor is one way to experience a Sound Bath.

If this is not possible, you are also welcome to sit on a cushion.

  • Many pregnant women are attending our Sound Healing sessions. Sound healing is totally safe and can be very beneficial during pregnancy, but make sure to let the facilitator know that you are pregnant before the session, as you may have to avoid certain things.

  • Children of all ages are welcome to attend a class together with their parent(s), and many have enjoyed the experience. For some children, being quiet and still for any time is complex. Movement and fidgeting or talking are disruptive to other participants. You know your child best.

  • Absolutely. At SEVA Experience, this private treatment combines deep breathing and relaxation techniques using singing bowl sound and vibration.

The effect is a therapeutic full-body sound massage.

At SEVA Experience, couple's sessions are also available.

For reservation, don't hesitate to get in touch with our Reception Team at +971 58 543 5888
